Xiaolu Guo and James Tookey in conversation

This interview was a treat, as Xiaolu Guo is one of my favorite authors (the "Big Stupid Clock" joke from a Concise Chinese-English Dictionary for Lovers will never leave me). A number of the points that came up in the interview echo Andrew Jones's excellent 1994 article "Chinese Literature in the 'World' Literary Economy," which was published in Modern Chinese Literature.

We're glad you like it, Alia. Thank you for putting me onto Jones' article, I wasn't aware of it. One to read this week.
