Dream of Ding Village Published

By Eric Abrahamsen, published

Whilst I was looking the other direction, Cindy Carter's translation of Yan Lianke's novel Dream of Ding Village was published by Grove Press in the US and Constable and Robinson in the UK. Take a look at this book (there's a Kindle edition!), it's a good one, by one of China's best contemporary authors. And an excellent translation!

Congratulations Cindy!

Over the long process of translation Cindy has shared a few short passages with us, and I must say I found them marvelous.

Carter does a crystalline translation of Lianke's brazen, unflinching portrayal of a community in the throes of collapse, says Publishers Weekly at Amazon.com.

Am looking forward to reviews of the book which remind the reader it was translated, and specifically comment on Carter's prose.

On to the next project, Cindy!

I've been reading through the translation since picking up a hardcover copy last week, and greatly enjoying it. Strong work, Cindy -- congratulations!

I'm looking forward to it too, but Amazon isn't selling the paperback till April, and the hardbacks are all being shipped 2nd hand from the US...

Any idea if the US/UK editions are the same?

Cheers
