Beijing Book Fair: List of Related Forums/Salons, etc?

By Bruce Humes, published

Each year there are dozens of literary events timed to coincide with the Beijing International Book Fair (Aug 23-27, 2017). They take place both on the fair grounds and throughout the capital, and sponsors include Paper Republic.

As lists of these events-- in Chinese or English -- become available, please list here so that we can all benefit . . .

Paper Republic isn't organizing the BIBF Literary Salons this year, so I can't help there! To my knowledge, the Beijing Bookworm is doing it for them this year, though I think the whole program is significantly reduced. I haven't been able to find a schedule online yet.

This year BIBF works with The Bookworm for the events. Don't why Bookworm hasn't posted the schedule on their website yet, though.

Eric put this link up on WeChat. Seems the internet is now the equivalent of snail-mail . . .

I note that one Aug 23rd session will be devoted to the translation of works by Beijing's Feng Tang.

Interesting. But perhaps not as interesting as the hullabaloo -- which became an "international incident" -- raised when Feng Tang's own racy translation of Rabindranath Tagore's Stray Birds was lambasted by both Chinese and Indian media:

A little late, but AmazonCrossing held an event yesterday afternoon at BIBF to celebrate the launch of Nicky Harman's translation of Jia Pingwa's Happy Dreams.

Here's a write up of the event (in which I'm only slightly misquoted): http://www.dzwww.com/xinwen/shehuixinwen/201708/t20170824_16329990.htm
