2016 Shanghai Translation Grant Winners Announced

By Helen Wang, published

The Chinese name of the grant (《上海翻译出版促进计划》 翻译资助) translates more literally as the "Shanghai Translation Publishing Promotion Scheme translation grant". The terms and conditions can be found here. Details of the winners of 2016 Shanghai Translation Grant can be found here.

Many thanks to Tony Blishen, who provided both of these weblinks. Congratulations to Tony, whose translations have won TWO of the five awards this year! The first is Aroma's Little Garden by children's author Qin Wenjun - see Tony's guest post on Chinese Books for Young Readers. The second is Reading Chinese Painting: Beyond Forms and Colors, a Comparative Approach to Art Appreciation, by Sophia Suk-mun Law.

More background to the grants here. Acknowledging that Chinese books could do better overseas, that it's not enough simply to put a Chinese text into a target language - it's necessary to pay attention to the target audience and the target market.
