爸爸爸 (lit. Da-Da-Da)

The title of the novella Ba Ba Ba is composed of the character for “Dad” repeated three times, almost as a child learning to speak would say, “Da-da-da.” Considered the founding work of the “Root-seeking” literary movement, it follows a young mute named Bing Zai around the small mountain village in which he was born, as he plays spectator to the minor dramas that unfold there.
