Wei Se 唯色

MCLC |

Woeser (or Öser), known as Wei Se in Chinese, is the highest-profile Tibetan writer and poet living within China. She writes poetry and essays about Tibetan culture, and about China's presence in Tibet, and is generally considered to be the closest thing the Tibetans have got to a spokesperson inside China. She and her husband Wang Lixiong are under regular surveillance and are occasionally harassed, though they've managed to stay out of jail. Woeser also maintains an influential blog, and a collection of her poetry has appeared in English as Tibet's True Heart.
