Patigul is a Uyghur writer and journalist born in 1965 in Tacheng, Xinjiang. She is the recipient of multiple prizes including the inaugural Xinjiang Development and Construction Literature Award, and her essay “We Slept the Winter on the Hay” was included in a best-of collection for 2012. Her essay collection Secrets Shared with Sheep was published in 2012.
