Ma Xiaotao is the pen name of Ma Tianmu. She was born in 1982, and published her first collection of essays, Blue Headband, at the age of 17. Subsequent publications include the novels Tree Has Flown Away, Bird Remains and Amber Love. Her latest short story collection, Zhang Doe, was released earlier this year. She has won various literary prizes, and now works as an editor at People’s Literature Magazine.
