Katharine Poundstone
Katharine is a Beijing-based translator from Lexington, Kentucky. She majored in Chinese Language and Literature at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and worked in public health projects in the U.S. and China for many years. She is an alumna of the Inter-University Program for Chinese Studies based at Tsinghua University, where she studied Chinese literature in greater depth under the auspices of a fellowship from the Blakemore Freeman Foundation. She is also a former participant in the Penguin China Chinese-English literary translation workshop, held in Suzhou in 2009. In college, her thesis advisor asked her to translate Wang Shuo’s novella, The Players, after just three years of Chinese language classes. It has taken her nearly twenty years to recover from this. Thankfully, time does heal all wounds.
