Darren Byler
Darren Byler is a Ph.D. student in the department of anthropology at the University of Washington, Seattle, where he studies the aesthetics of urban life in contemporary Northwest China. Darren graduated from Columbia University in 2009 with an MA in East Asian Studies. He has contributed essays to edited volumes on Transnational Chinese Cinema (Bridge 21 Press: July 2014) and The Poetics of Travel (Berghahn Press: Under Review); he has also assisted in the Uyghur-English translation (with Mutellip Enwer) of Selected Works of Kucha’s Farmer Painters (Xinjiang People’s Press: 2012) and the Chinese-English translation (with Li Dan) of Pictorial Xinjiang from Ancient to Modern Times (Xinjiang Fine Arts & Photography Press: 2011).
