Penguin China Hiring Editorial Staff

http://www.danweijobs.com/en/job/email/40/

The international publisher Penguin Books is looking to hire an editor to work on a new list of books on and from China.

We aim to secure 5-10 original works per year, written in both English and Chinese, for international publication. The Editor role will be a broad one: he or she will work on every stage of the publishing process, from identification and acquisition of new works, MS edits, and commissions of translators through to PR, marketing, and managing translation rights.

A very viral fiction? You decide. adamcoughlin.blogspot.com: "We are publishing a simple story about a young British diplomat named Jason Bromby who sees the world and wants to change it. But change comes at a cost..."

I'd rather read spam for Ugg boots and Viagra than this corny viral advertising for a lame-ass book.

I went back and forth about whether to delete that comment/advert for the viral novel. On the one hand, Paper Republic is committed to maintaining an "open comment" policy. On the other hand, the comments section of a post about a Penguin job opening isn't the most appropriate venue for a link to a viral novel. I'm certain this won't be the last time that someone tries to promote his or her China-related fiction in a Paper Republic comment thread. Does anyone else want to weigh in on this? What do our other readers think? To delete, or not to delete?

It adds colour, right?

And it lets people know that Paper Republic is all that stands between a million viral novels about China featuring the corniest writing imaginable.

"The world Jason was living in the last few months is unsavory. But then again, don’t we all share the same world? All I know is that I am in Angola and it is dark and lonely. And I fear its brightest light has now been extinguished."

"There is life outside of your television and facebook page. Participate in it. Turn down your apathy and remember we’re all one people. We all have hopes and dreams and want what is best for our children. People are actively trying to take that away from us. Don’t let them."

Espionage thriller/the kind of chain e-mail I get from my aunt.

Send this to five people in the next five minutes and you will be guaranteed a special surprise in the next 72 hours.

Turn down your apathy, Cindy Carter, and let the spirit of Jason Bromby live on!
