Colin Hawes teaches Chinese and corporate law at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, but he has never lost his appetite for literature since completing his Ph.D. in classical Chinese poetry at the University of British Columbia in the late 1990s. Besides co-translating Wang Yuan’s stories in Beijing Women, he has published a cross-cultural comic mystery novel with a Taoist/Zen slant (McLis’ Celtic T’ai-chi Club) and two much less interesting academic books on contemporary Chinese corporate culture and Song dynasty poetry.
