China Inside Day 29 March looking for UK-based reading group to read Chinese fiction

Reading groups are growing in importance as a way of bringing people together – writers, readers, translators, editors, publishers – and are seen as hugely important by at least one UK-based publisher http://www.andotherstories.org/reading-groups/ . The Guardian sent a reporter to find out more, see http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2012/feb/02/fiction-in-translation-future? And the comments to this article include several by a determined reader who wanted to details about how they are funded.
On the New Books in German website, you are invited to state whether you are a publisher, a translator or a reader. Representatives from this group were at the London Bookfair 2011 and their approach seems to be very successful. http://www.new-books-in-german.com/english/273/273/129002/liste9.html There is a similar group for Spanish books http://www.newspanishbooks.com/
Nicky is too modest to mention here that the Bookclub Fest that she organised as part of her Translator-in-Residence at the Free Word Centre, London, was VERY well attended, and showed the advantages of having diverse reading groups (specialists, non-specialists, people who can read the original, people who are reading in translation, people of all different backgrounds, ages and experiences).
