China: A Traveler's Literary Companion

The stories in this collection were primarily selected for evoking a strong sense of place, and the book is meant to be a kind of literary background to travel in China. All stories are reprints except for Yan Lianke's "Black Bristles, White Bristles", which is a new translation by Howard Goldblatt. The stories are as follows:
