Bruce Humes
A Chinese-to-English literary translator by preference, Bruce Humes earns a living in Shenzhen as a China publishing consultant, export management trainer and trade show conference organizer. He has worked several years each in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Taipei. An inveterate student of foreign languages, over the years he has somehow wangled (occasionally free!) home stays in Kyoto, Istanbul, St. Petersburg and Paris.
Bruce translates contemporary Chinese fiction into English, including Wei Hui’s controversial tale of an international love triangle, Shanghai Baby. More recently, literary agents and authors have commissioned him to read popular Chinese novels, recommend chapters for excerpting, and then translate them for marketing to publishers in the West. Excerpted authors include Chun Shu, Xiao Hongchi, Mu Zimei and Feng Tang.
