BEA 2015: Children's and YA Publishing in China
In brief opening remarks, Li Yan explained his interest in promoting Chinese culture abroad, asserted how big and successful Chinese publishing houses are, and that children’s publishing is a priority. The majority of the time went to Patricia Giff and Cao Wenxuan.
Comments
Two of Cao Wenxuan’s books have just been published in English:
Bronze and Sunflower (Walker Books, UK, April 2015) – translated by me.
The Amber Tiles (Better Chinese, USA, May 2015) – translated by Nicholas Richards, launched at BEA.

The article mentions an English translation of Cao Wenxuan's bestselller Straw Houses. The translation, by Sylvia Yu and Julian Chen, published by Better Link Press, 2006 (ISBN 1-60220-908-1; green cover with big sunflower and vertical red stripe) is a slim bilingual book, containing only 2 chapters (纸月 and 细马). It is not the whole book.
