Apparently I'm the last to know (I've been asleep all day), but Jiang Rong has taken the Man Asian Literary Prize. Huzzah!

Have seen several general news items on this award. I COULD be mistaken, but I believe NONE of them specifically states which version of the book won the prize: The original Chinese or the as-yet unpublished English by Goldbatt. Which is a bit bizarre...

The Man Literary Prize website (here) says the prize is specifically for the English version. Odd, but I guess it makes practical sense for the judges. Also I haven't seen anyone mention that Goldblatt took home $3,000 (compared to Jiang Rong's $10,000) for his translation.
