The famous “officialdom” author Wang Yuewen (1962- ) began his writing life, unsurprisingly, in the offices of the Shupu District government in his home province of Hunan. He wrote official documents by day and novels by night, and did not become a professional author until 2001. A star writer of the fabulously popular genre of “officialdom fiction,” his books explore the cloak-and-dagger scandals of Chinese government life, which has been a world unto itself since the official establishment of the civil service examination two thousand years ago. Wang Yuewen is a member of the Hunan Provincial Writer’s Association.
