Can Xue

残雪

Can Xue (real name Deng Xiaohua, 邓小华) is in her fifties, and has been writing short stories, essays, novels and criticism since the mid-1980s. She cites Kafka and Borges as influences, and tends toward surrealism and stories of inner life. She's relatively well-represented in English, and has spoken at universities in the United States. She's interviewed by Laura McCandlish here, and there are a few selections in English on WebDelSol here.

MIT has an extensive mini-website devoted to Can Xue and her works.
