Dr. Tommy McClellan is Senior Lecturer in Chinese at the University of Edinburgh.

Education

MA Honours in Chinese with Russian, 1st class, Edinburgh, 1984.

PhD in modern Chinese literature (“Zhang Henshui’s fiction: attempts to reform the traditional Chinese novel”), Edinburgh, 1992.

Research

My main interests lie in twentieth century literature, mainly (i) fiction of the late Qing; (ii) popular fiction of the whole century; (iii) May4/mainstream fiction; (iv) Yenan/Maoist fiction; (v) the poetry of Wen Yiduo (1899-1946); (vi) the fiction of Zhong Lihe (Taiwan, 1915-1960) (vii) applied literary translation in (i)-(vi), i.e. translation as a part, by-product and facilitator of ongoing research.
